About The Artist
in her own words
The two main things about me are that I am an EXTREMELY SHY (which will keep me from revealing too much here), and I have been painting since I was five. Art has always been a major part of my life. I won a few awards here and there (big deal) and have enjoyed some commercial success. Like most artists, I have had to supplement my art career with other jobs. Though some of the jobs have been fabulous, they do not stir the same feelings as when I pick up a paintbrush.
My grown-up art (you know, the "serious" pieces) tends to feature acrylics, with paintings from 20" x 30" in size and up to 5' x 6'. I run the
gamut on subject matter and style. Some feature modern impressionist pictures inspired by my travels and
the landscapes of Europe. I have enjoyed depicting "Americana:," New England towns, such as Martha's Vineyard and Falmouth, with lots of signs and small detailing. It was with the signs that I started getting a little silly and found great enjoyment.
I favor autumn tones, but every spring I paint one huge floral painting and one snow scene every
winter.
It was taking me months, sometimes a year or more, to finish one landscape, so I started doing 9" x 12" watercolors in between to maintain my perspective.
My watercolor style is a little different from most artists', as I do not pre-mix the colors. I create all of the hues and tints by layering pure colors (I use about 5 original colors to create all of the variances).
I did not sell these watercolors at first, as they were "too silly" and cute for a serious artist. But what do you do when you have a stack of a hundred plus prints? I do not call myself the "Starving Artist" for nothing! In an effort not to diminish my reputation for the serious work, I sold the watercolor originals the first year under a different name. However, the fun watercolors took off and people raved about how much they loved the style. To meet the demand, I started selling watercolor prints on the Internet (the best venue for shy people!), donated them to
children's charities, and placed them in small specialty shops.
I sincerely thank each and every one of you who supports me and my dream! Thank you for supporting the Arts and feeding the Starving Artist!
